How difficult is it to put new seats in my car

l have a 1987 Subaru Justy; it is a terrific car that is mechanically sound

and has tonnes of life left.Plus it is my baby and l plan on keeping it

forever.

However, the rear seat has sun damage and the driver

seat is cracked and worn from wear. Also the carpet near the pedals has

worn through. It looks ugly and l have seat covers, but it does not look as

good as having actual upholestry.

Where would l find seats for
this car?l tried Ebay but there is none. Also tried dismantling yards, but
this car is pretty rare and could not find any.Any websites you know
of?

Also, once l find some, how hard is it for a
''do-it-yourselfer'' to take the old ones and bolt new ones in?It seems
like it'd be just a number of bolts holding the seat and tracks to the
floor.

Probably get them recovered cheaper, to match your colors.

You're talking a 20 year old car, so most seats will probably be in the

same condition.

Front seats are just 4 bolts and maybe a wire connector. Rear seats are

pretty simple as well.

You can try at this site. BTW, this is a great site for Subie owners.

You could try looking in Hemmings Motor News (web site:
Cutesy Whootsie
hemmings.com) for replacement seats. As for the installation, I would

think it should be a pretty straighforward job. Just unbolt the old seats

& remove them (make sure there is no seat belt electrical wiring in the

way) & then install the new ones in the reverse order. The carpeting is a

little harder since you will have to remove the seats, console (if
equipped), & most of the trim around the old carpet. It is time
consuming, but when you're done, you will be the proud owner of a
new-looking interior.

I would just have your seats recovered it might save you time
Sweet Tart
trying to find some and you could do your own style of seat cover

depending on what they offer. You could cover one seat a time that way

it would not be so costly, and yes it is nothing more than some
